I’ve always wanted a hymn board.
Call it a flashback to my catholic upbringing, taught by nuns and made to go to mass…or call it a passion for churches, cathedrals or anything religious and iconic – either way, I’ve been searching for the right one for some time now.
But, I have eventually found one in the beautiful ‘Rose and Brown’ vintage boutique, gallery and home-ware shop in West Yorkshire (find the link HERE). I’ve blogged about this wonderful store of gorgeousness before…but they’ve since opened a second shop – and it was HERE through their Facebook page that I found the hymn board that I was looking for. Want to see it?
What do you think? What I also loved about it, is that it came with a beautiful wooden box full of numbers! As you can see from the photo above it looks perfect on my garden room wall too – and has already become a talking piece when friends have been to visit! Most like it – others think it weird!
Be sure to check out both Rose & Brown shops – and their organised vintage fashion shows, fairs & events – should you ever be in West Yorkshire ;-) …details on their website.

Now that is totally cool! And to get the wooden box with numbers is even better. Good job on the great find! p.s. I love the old cars banner.

How strange – I thought I’d commented on this already but apparently not!
Anyway, as I think I already said (somewhere) who but us vintage lovers would look at a hymn board and think it would look good in our home? However, we are totally vindicated with photos like this as it looks brilliant – well spotted.

You know what? I saw that very same hymn board two weeks ago! I’ve moved to Saltaire – what a small world!! :-)
(and I’m thinking now that I may have passed you by the canal a while ago – I remember seeing someone who I thought was you!)

Definitely a small world! …and thank God you didn’t purchase it otherwise this would have been your blog piece and not mine ;-)
Very rarely go along the canal, so doubt that was me to be fair – but ironically someone else has already said to me that I have double in the village!! The poor sod! ;-)
If you fancy the idea, we should go for a coffee one day – it’d be lovely to meet you in person at long last – and your Daniel too.
Hope this finds you well :-)

Ah it must have been your double then! I remember thinking at the time (probably about 6 months ago now) that it might have been you, knowing that you live around the area. You’d best watch out for this doppel-ganger! ;-)
And yes, a coffee would be lovely! Do you have a preferred spot? I’m yet to sample the local coffee shops!

Not weird at all! I think it looks great – elegant. It is also a unique decorative item – and unique/different is OK in my books!

I agree with all of the above comments, Al. I think it is very beautiful, and so eye-catching. I also think the wooden box with all the numbers in it is a fantastic idea.

I came by your blog on a Google image search for hymn boards, which I remember with great fondness from my childhood. I’m coveting a vintage board like yours, but they don’t come available all that often…congratulations on your great find!
I hope you don’t mind: I posted your image, with a link-back to your blog, at http://newport2newport.livejournal.com/309423.html
